The Smile Professionals · Teeth whitening
A brighter smile with Opalescence by Ultradent, the whitening system dentists have trusted for decades. Choose a fast session in the clinic or gentle whitening at home with custom trays, always prescribed and supervised by our dentists.

The basics
Tooth colour comes from two layers: the enamel on the outside and the dentin underneath. Over the years enamel becomes thinner and picks up pigments from what we eat and drink, while the dentin naturally turns more yellow. That is why almost everyone's teeth get darker with age, even with good hygiene.
Professional whitening works from the inside of the tooth. The active ingredient, carbamide or hydrogen peroxide, passes through the enamel and breaks down the coloured molecules into smaller, colourless ones. The structure of the tooth stays the same: only its colour changes. This is different from a cleaning or a "whitening" toothpaste, which can only remove stains from the surface.
Pigments from drinks and food settle in the enamel day after day.
Tobacco leaves yellow and brown staining that brushing cannot remove.
Enamel thins and the yellower dentin shows through more.
Internal discoloration, for example after tetracycline or an injury, can often be improved too.
Your options
We offer two professional systems. Both are prescribed and monitored by our dentists. The difference is speed and setting: one session in the chair, or gradual whitening at home over a couple of weeks.
In the clinic
A modern in-office treatment with a visible result in a single appointment. The dentist protects your gums, applies a professional-strength gel and controls the whole process. Ideal before an event, or when you want the result fast.
€350
At home
We make custom trays from a 3D scan of your teeth and give you Opalescence PF gel in the strength the dentist chooses for you. You wear the trays at home for a set time each day and whiten gradually, comfortably and evenly.

The system we use
Opalescence is the professional whitening system of the American company Ultradent. It is one of the most widely used whitening brands among dentists worldwide, with versions for whitening at home and in the dental office. Unlike supermarket strips or salon treatments, it is sold only through dental professionals, who choose the right formula and concentration for each patient.
Opalescence is used for natural age-related darkening and for stains from coffee, tea, wine and smoking. It can also improve more difficult internal discoloration, such as fluorosis spots or staining after certain medications, although these cases need more time and the result is more individual.
PF formula
"PF" stands for potassium nitrate and fluoride. Potassium nitrate helps reduce sensitivity during whitening, and fluoride supports the enamel. That is why Opalescence PF is comfortable even for many people with sensitive teeth.
Sticky gel
The gel is thick and sticky, so it does not run out of the tray onto the gums like thinner gels. More of the active ingredient stays on the teeth, and the gums stay comfortable.
Strengths
Opalescence PF comes in several concentrations of carbamide peroxide. The dentist chooses yours based on your teeth, your sensitivity and how much time you want to spend wearing the trays.
Custom trays
Your trays are made from a digital scan of your teeth, so they fit precisely, keep the gel in even contact with every tooth and are comfortable to wear. If you grind your teeth, we make them from a thicker material.
Is it safe for enamel?
The most common worry about whitening is that it "damages enamel". Professional whitening under a dentist's supervision is considered safe for healthy teeth.
A laboratory study at King Saud University (Saudi Arabia) looked at whether whitening makes enamel more vulnerable to tooth decay. Researchers split 24 healthy front teeth in half: one half was whitened, the other was kept as a control. Three whitening gels were tested: 10% and 35% hydrogen peroxide, and 20% carbamide peroxide with fluoride and potassium nitrate. All samples were then placed in a model that simulates the conditions of tooth decay, and examined under a confocal laser microscope.
The result: none of the whitening gels made the enamel more vulnerable to decay than the untreated halves. The halves whitened with carbamide peroxide containing fluoride were even less vulnerable than their controls. The authors concluded that whitening gels do not increase enamel's susceptibility to decay, and that fluoride-containing formulas may help protect it.
This was an in-vitro (laboratory) study. It supports the safety of professional whitening, but your dentist will always check your teeth before recommending it.
Honest expectations
Before whitening
When we don't whiten
If your gums or teeth start to hurt, or you feel strong sensitivity to cold during whitening, stop and call us: we adjust the plan.
How it works
The dentist checks your teeth and gums, records your shade and explains which option suits you and what result to expect.
A professional cleaning, and treatment of any cavities or leaking fillings if needed.
The gums are protected, the gel is applied and refreshed under the dentist's control. You leave with a visibly brighter smile the same day.
We scan your teeth, make your custom trays and show you how much gel to use and how long to wear them each day.
You whiten at home following the plan. The colour changes a little every day, so you can stop when you like the shade.
We compare the new shade with your starting one and give you tips to keep the result as long as possible.
After whitening
It is individual. With good habits, the result of professional whitening can last for years. Coffee, red wine and smoking make it fade faster. With take-home trays, a short top-up from time to time keeps your shade.
Avoid strongly coloured food and drinks: coffee, tea, red wine, beetroot, soy sauce.
Mild sensitivity to cold can appear and passes on its own. A toothpaste for sensitive teeth helps.
Rinse with water after coffee or wine, and use a straw for dark drinks.
A professional cleaning once or twice a year removes new surface stains.
Professional whitening under a dentist's supervision is considered safe for healthy teeth. The gel changes the colour inside the tooth without changing its structure. A laboratory study at King Saud University found that whitening gels did not make enamel more vulnerable to decay, and fluoride-containing gels like Opalescence PF may even help protect it.
